This SUSRIS Special Section covers issues related to the intense rains that pummeled Jeddah in 2011 causing flash flooding. It caused widespread fear and panic for residents, as memories of the November 2009 floods, in which over 100 citizens died, have not faded. This year several citizens lost their lives in the floods and many were forced to vacate their homes. The aftermath of the flooding brings concern regarding the lack of response by the government. Others are worried by the possibility of disease spreading due to overflowing sewage waters.
